

Verner was the fifth daughter out of six born on May 3, 1949, to parents, Archie Veal and Carrie T. Veal in Martinez. CA. She was affectionately called “Deanie” by her family and those close to her.
She grew up in the Richmond area. She attended Perry Elementary School, Harry Ells Middle School, and Richmond High School. In 1967, she received her high school diploma and furthered her education at the Contra Costa City College.
In 1974, she married the love of her life, Warren G. Burton, in Reno, NV on Valentine’s Day. They would live a life of more than 20’s, before his death.
Verner worked for the Dennison-Eastman Paper Manufacturing Company for 30 years. In 1985, she relocated to Los Angeles with the company, but, relocated back in 2000, when the company closed their Los Angeles operations. She retired in 2002.
Verner accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, uniting with McGlothen Temple Church Of God In Christ in Richmond, CA with her family. Her parents made sure that she and her siblings, participated in the Sunshine Band and other youth auxiliaries/ministries in the church. "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6. It can be said that her passion of serving and assisting others, was birthed as a result of her upbringing. In 2005, Verner would join Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church also, in Richmond, CA. She actively served on the Usher Board, the Culinary Ministry and with the Food Pantry, alongside one of her dearest friends, Ms. Mary Woolfolk.
Verner had a friendly and outgoing personality. She was a woman of immeasurable strength and courage. Her passion was taking care of people. Besides her church activities, she would volunteer to serve people in need in the community and also, volunteered to assist at the voting polls. One of Verners favorite pastimes was travelling, especially with her bowling team for competitions. She enjoyed her soap operas, and crocheting. She was respected and trusted, by many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Carrie T. Veal; her daughter, Antwanna L. Stephenson: sisters – Floridelle, Eugenia, Karen, and Elizabeth; and her husband, Warren G. Burton.
Verner leaves to cherish her memory: her grandson, Juwan Morgan-Veal of Richmond, CA; four great grandchildren, Jaszwan Veal, Jaylen Morgan-Veal, Ty’Juan Morgan-Veal, and Egypt Morgan-Veal; her sister, Terry Warren of Buckeye, AZ; her in-laws, the Burton Family; special friends/extended family members, Mary Woolfolk and Ray Ousborn; and a host of relatives, friends and loved ones.
A public viewing for Verner will be held Tuesday, November 9, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Fuller Funerals, Inc, 3100 Cutting Blvd, Richmond, CA 94804. A celebration of her life will occur Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Bethlehem MB Church, 684 Juliga Woods Street, Richmond, CA 94804.
