

AD is survived by his wife of 61 years Callie L. Stuart , two grandsons Keane Stuart and Colin Godwin and daughter in law Amy Kahler Stuart all of Richmond, VA. brother in law James (Dar) Lovett, Lebanon, TN, sisters in laws Janet Lovett and Bertha Carter of Hillsborough, NC; Ann Stuart of Wilmington, NC and Nancy Helms of Spring Hill, TN and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his only son, Dr. William (Bill) D. Stuart of Richmond, VA, and parents Archie David Stuart, Sr. and Katherine Bennett Stuart, both of Raleigh, NC and sister Jane K Stuart of Raleigh, NC and brother John C Stuart of Wilmington, NC.
A native of Raleigh NC, he graduated from Needham Broughton High School, attended NC State College and graduated from UNC-CH with a degree in history. From there in 1962 he entered the property and casualty insurance industry in Greensboro NC. After two years serving in the US Army, he returned to the insurance field where he remained until his retirement in 2005. After property and casualty underwriting for two companies in Greensboro NC, he and his family then moved to Richmond, VA where he became a special agent/marketing representative in Virginia for three insurance companies in succession, with Richmond always being home base.
AD is a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Richmond VA. His church activities included the McClure Bible Sunday School Class and the Young at Heart Senior Fellowship. He was also a former member of Overbrook Presbyterian Church, Richmond, VA where he served as a Deacon, an Elder and Sunday School Teacher.
He was a member of several property and casualty organizations. He was a member of the Professional Insurance Agents Associations of Virginia and the District of Columbia, and was honored by them as Fieldman of the Year in 1978. Also through them he attained the professional designation of Certified Insurance Counselor in 1980. He was also a member of the Southern 1752 Club, an educational and fraternal organization for property and casualty field representatives and served in all of the offices of that organization, including two terms as president
A funeral service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 903 Forest Ave, Richmond, VA Wednesday March 13th at 2 PM with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will be held on March 14th at 11 AM at Raleigh Memorial Park. Arrangements are being handled by Woody’s Parham Chapel, 1771 N. Parham Road, Richmond VA 23229
