

Ashwin Ratilal Kamani of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia passed away peacefully around 4:00 AM on Tuesday, the 29th of December, 2015 after a gallant, long battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). He was surrounded by his family during his last moments.
Ashwin was born on August 31, 1942 in Jetpur, India to Ratilal and Sarla Kamani. He has two sisters and four brothers. He grew up in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and completed his Architecture degree from Addis Ababa University. He married Snehlata Mehta of Mumbai, India in 1968. He moved to the United States in 2010 to retire after a successful 40 year career running his architectural firm, Kamani Studio.
He is survived by his wife Snehlata and two sons, Sanjay and Sameer; his two daughters-in-law, Meeta and Binita and three grandchildren, Nikesh, Dhilan and Jiya. He is also survived by his eldest sister, Bhanuben and three younger brothers, Bakul, Pankaj and Naynesh. He will be joining his elder sister Sudhaben and his younger brother Prafull.
Ashwin is remembered dearly for his pleasant demeanor, his optimistic spirit, his thirst for knowledge and his love for his adopted homeland of Ethiopia. He loved watching soccer with his grandsons, playing cards and was a championship caliber bridge player. He was a loving father to his sons and an active participant in his grandchildren's activities. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.

Funeral arrangements are for 9:30 am Friday January 1, 2016 at Woody Funeral Home 1771 North Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23229. Additional prathna events will follow in Connecticut, DC and Florida.
