Barry Lee Braatz

Barry Lee Braatz of Murfreesboro, NC passed away on Sunday February 21, 2021 in Richmond, VA. He was preceeded in death by his father, Elwood Emmett Braatz. He is survived by his wife, Susan Foreman Braatz; his son, Michael McGuire Braatz; his mother, Patricia Lemmon Braatz; and his sister, Sharon Braatz Whitlock (C. Wayne Whitlock). Barry was raised in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake and graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in accounting. For the past 16 years, Barry worked as the Accounting Controller for Commercial Ready Mix Products in Winton, NC. Barry was a devoted husband, father, son and brother. He was a man of few words and had a gentle bearing that was his hallmark. He enjoyed being the jokester to any and all friends and family members throughout his life. He also enjoyed working on projects around their home and maintained a keen interest in many sports, especially the UNC Tarheels men's basketball team. This ministry builds orphanages for children who have lost both parents due to illness in the countries of Togo, Ghana, Kenya and Congo.
