Betty Ewing York

Betty Ewing York, age 87, passed away in her home in Richmond, VA on August 7, 2024. She was raised in Stephens City, VA and was a 1956 graduate of James Wood High School. While in Stephens City, she met and married Henry Edward York. They resided in Vienna, VA for many years and moved to Winchester, VA after retirement.

Betty was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Vienna, followed by Braddock Street United Methodist Church in Winchester.

She is survived by three children, Elizabeth (Libby) Johnson of Richmond VA, Stephanie Gail York of Springfield VA, and Henry Edward (Chip) York Jr. of Richmond VA; four grandchildren, Katherine Johnson Portela, Stephen Raymond Bender III, Kelly Johnson Kroneman and Ronan Helen York; and three great-grandchildren (David Bender, Johanna Kroneman, and Ezra Kroneman). She is also survived by a sibling (Ray Ewing of Winchester VA), nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Edward York, grandchild Aiden York, and several siblings.

A memorial service will take place in Winchester at the Village at Orchard Ridge on Saturday September 7, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. followed by a scattering of ashes at the Memorial Garden at Orchard Ridge. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Blue Ridge Hospice.
