Callie Lovett Stuart claimed the promise of the resurrection on July 31, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, A.D. (Archie David) Stuart, Jr., her only child, Dr. William (Bill) Stuart, her parents, two brothers, and a sister. She is survived by her grandsons Keane Stuart and Colin Godwin, her daughter in law Amy Kahler Stuart, her sisters Janet Lovett and Bertha Carter, her brother James T. (Dar) Lovett, her sisters in law Ann Stuart and Nancy Helms, and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Deborah (Willie) Fox.
Callie was born in LaFollette, TN, and lived in Greensboro, NC before moving to Richmond in the early 1970s. She retired from the property and casualty insurance industry after 53 years of service. She was a member of the Insurance Women of Richmond Association for 40 years and served three terms as president. She was a member of the Professional Insurance Agents of VA/DC.
She enjoyed reading, cultivating her beautiful yard and garden, going out to dinner with the “insurance ladies”, beating her family in Monopoly and Scrabble, and volunteering at her church. She never missed her grandsons’ soccer games, tournaments, band concerts, competitions, awards ceremonies, and Halloween costume reveals. Her pecan pies were renowned and graciously baked by the dozens every Christmas for many friends, family members, coworkers, and neighbors. She was unabashedly outspoken about many topics, and you always knew where you stood with her.
Her family is grateful to Virginia Cancer Institute, St. Mary’s Woods, and Suncrest Hospice for the kind and compassionate care they provided to Callie.
Callie was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, 903 Forest Avenue, Richmond, VA 23229, where her funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at 3pm. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial in NC will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dr. Bill Stuart Memorial Scholarship Fund, Longwood University Foundation, 201 High Street, Farmville, VA 23909, or to Camp Hanover, 3163 Parsleys Mill Road, Mechanicsville, VA 23111.
