Carol was born on January 8, 1939, to Dorothy B. and Leo I. Korn in Forest Hills, New York.
At 14 she moved to Philadelphia, where after high school she attended the Philadelphia Museum of Art School. She worked in the advertising industry for several years. While living in Philly she met and fell in love with Temple University Law student, Gary Leedes. Carol and Gary Charles Leedes wed in Philadelphia PA in 1962. In 1967 she experienced what she called the happiest day of her life when she proudly became a mother to their beloved, and cherished son John. Carol remained a proud mother for the duration of her days.
In 1973, she and her family moved down to Richmond where Gary pursued his career as a law professor at the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond. It wasn’t long before Carol discovered the duplicate bridge center where she spent much time and developed many cherished friendships. She was an avid bridge player and became a life master and a member of the American Contract Bridge League. She loved to play all types of games and was a fierce competitor. She loved telling stories, jokes and with her quick wit she never missed an opportunity to interject a clever pun into the conversation.
Carol had a passion for traveling around the world and always had a trip planned. She ended up traveling to 6 out of the 7 continents and always experienced an amazing, unique adventure. Her experiences ranged from living many summers in Hampstead, England, where Gary did research in the summers, to riding in a hot air balloon over the Rio Grande, to riding an elephant in Africa.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Gary, and is survived by her son John B. Leedes and his wife Susan M. Leedes, best friends Dawn Barber and Toni Morton; step-grandchildren Sarah and Michael Ferrara, Sam and Brooks Lyddan; and four great-grandchildren Charlie, Mills, Eloise and Nicolas.
We would also like to thank care givers Sandra Cobbs and Hospice nurse Gin-Nine Morrison who helped keep Carol as comfortable as possible during the final days in her home.
A celebration of life graveside service for Carol will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Westhampton Memorial & Cremation Park, 10000 Patterson Ave, Richmond, VA 23238.
