Charles Northrup White, Jr., age 82, of Richmond, Virginia passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022. Charles was born in New York on June 2, 1939 to the late, Charles Northrup White, Sr and Elvina White.
After graduating from Western Michigan in 1962, he served the Fraternity as a regional Director before joining the U.S. Army as a special forces officer. In 1967, Chuck and his wife, Susan, were living in Ohio and Chuck was working at Procter and Gamble when they were asked to relocate with their two daughters to Richmond where Chuck would serve as the Fraternity's chapter services Director. In 1972, he was appointed the fraternity's Executive Director. Under Chuck’s leadership, the Regional Leadership Academies were created in 1973, and he ably guided the fraternity through a time of financial and operational uncertainty. In 1987, he became President of the fraternity executives association. In that role, he established a national public relations program for all fraternities and founded the Fraternity Insurance Purchasing group to serve all fraternities in light of rising insurance costs. After bringing stability to fraternity operations, in 1987 Chuck moved to a role as President of the SigEp educational foundation. He secured the naming gift for the fraternity‘s new headquarters from the family of J. Edward Zollinger, allowing SigEp to move to its current office space in 1988. The foundation launched the $5 million campaign for the Heart in 1991, exceeding its goal and raising $7 million in a three-year period. After retiring from the foundation presidency, Chuck continued his involvement as a life trustee. Chuck and Susan have attended more than 15 conclaves together. Citation recipient and Zollinger House designer Tom Allardyce, Lamar '70, named the Susan and Chuck White office in honor of their more than 50 years of dedicated service to SigEp.
Chuck also served as Treasurer of the West End Rotary Club foundation. He was very active in Crimestoppers.
