Claire Jalbert Lewis, beloved daughter, wife, mother and grandmother passed away on January 31 after a 3 year battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her father, James Jalbert and her son, Carter Lewis. She is survived by her husband Steve Lewis of Glen Allen; daughter Allyn Pritchard (Lenny); son Neal Lewis (Erica); daughter-in-law Marnie Lewis; and her grandchildren Melanie Lewis, Steven and Evelyn Lewis, Lily Hawks, Meredith and Morgan Pritchard. She is also survived by her mother Doretta Jalbert; brother Paul Jalbert (Emily); sister Meme Bullard (Ted); sister Cathy Patton (Daniel); and sister Julie Oley (Anthony) and many loving nieces and nephews. Claire was born in Eagle Lake, Maine. She graduated from Douglas Freeman High School in 1966 and attended the Richmond Memorial Hospital (RMH) School of Nursing. After school, her career in women’s healthcare began in the Labor and Delivery department at RMH. Later she joined Virginia Women’s Center (VWC) where she remained until her diagnosis. During her 40 year career with VWC, Claire made many close friendships that she cherished. Claire had a life-long love of the arts, in particular dance. She volunteered as an usher at the Modlin Center for the Arts and The Cultural Arts Center of Glen Allen. She also used her nursing skills as a volunteer at Crossover Healthcare Ministry. Claire was an active and involved grandmother. Spending time with her grandchildren was a top priority, including snow skiing, kayaking, canoeing and hiking. She also enjoyed days at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts with her grandchildren. She was a life long member of St. Bridget Church. A memorial service will be held at Woody Funeral Home-Parham Road on Wednesday, February 8th at 5:00 pm. Family will be present to receive friends at 4:00 pm. After the service, friends are also welcome to visit with the family at Glen Allen Community Center. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Claire to Crossover Healthcare Ministry at www.crossoverministry.org.
