

WOOD, Dorothy Bayley Shell, 96, of Richmond, died September 16, 2014. She was the daughter of Jack and Marguerite Shell of Lawrenceville, Va. and the widow of Charles H. Wood, Jr., of Richmond. She is survived by her brother, Dr. John R. Shell and his wife, Betty, of Madison, Mississippi; her children, Dr. Richard H. Wood and his wife, Letty, of Richmond, Elizabeth W. Delk and her husband, Rodham, of Smithfield and Dr. John C. Wood and his wife, Pamela, of San Antonio, Texas; seven grandchildren, Tulloss, Christopher, Campbell, Charles, Margaret, John Charles and Bayley; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Marguerite S. Ritchie. Mrs. Wood was a member of Ginter Park Baptist Church where among other positions she served as deacon, Sunday School leader and superintendent of Vacation Bible School. Active in church, civic and educational organizations, she served as president of the Woman’s Missionary Union, the Lee District Junior Women’s Club, the Boatwright Society of the University of Richmond and John Marshall High School Parent – Teacher Association. She was State Junior Director of the Virginia Federation of Women’s Club. A graduate of Westhampton College – University of Richmond, Mrs. Wood taught at Collegiate School for 22 years. A memorial service will be held at Westminster Canterbury Richmond, at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 20, 2014. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Charles and Dorothy Wood Emergency Fund at Ginter Park Baptist Church or Westminster Canterbury Richmond.
