Eddie Marks

MARKS, Eddie went home to be with his Lord on Friday, June 2, 2017, at the age of 98. John Edward Marks was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Hazel Harman Marks. Eddie is survived by their two daughters, Mary Marks Littlejohn, her husband, Leonard Littlejohn and Betty Marks Rennie; and three grandchildren, Elizabeth Rennie Lungut, her husband, Kris Lungut, Andrew Littlejohn and his wife, Kathryn Wilson Littlejohn and Catherine Rennie; a great-granddaughter and another great-grandchild on the way. The family would like to thank Loretta Young for the loving care she provided for Hazel and Eddie.

A native of Richmond, Eddie served his country during World War II as a member of the Army Air Corps as a 1st Lieutenant in the 381st Bomb Group in the Eighth Air Force at Ridgewell, England. He flew 29 combat missions from September, 1944 to March 30, 1945 as radar operator. Piloted by General Gross, Eddie flew in the lead ship of 1,400 B-17s to bomb the Bremen sub pens, the largest mission ever flown. The lead pilot was General Gross. He was a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia School of Pharmacy class of 1949. Eddie practiced pharmacy in the Richmond area for more than 30 years, he retired as president of Drug-Way Stores. He served as president of both the Richmond and Virginia Pharmaceutical Associations. After Hazel, Eddie’s passion was golf. He was a longtime member of Hermitage Country Club, where he shot three holes-in-one. He was a deacon and active member of Derbyshire Baptist Church for many years. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m.Tuesday, June 6, 2017 and 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. A graveside service will be held in Westhampton Memorial Park, at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 8th. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Derbyshire Baptist Church, 8800 Derbyshire Rd., Richmond, Va. 23229. Memorial contributions may be made to Derbyshire Baptist Church.
