

Spevak, Ervin “Erv” Thomas Spevak, 97, departed this life on February 25, 2025. Erv was born in Chicago, IL. He was predeceased by his parents Rose and Otto Spevak and his brother Otto M. Spevak, his sisters Rose Kraft and Eleanor Russ and grandson Robert A. Ranson, III. Erv is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mildred “Millie” Murphy Spevak, his children and stepchildren, Susan Spevak Bradley (Buck), Vicki Spevak Phillips (George), Tom Steven Spevak (Paula), James Otto “Jim” Spevak (Karen), Bradford Lee Ashley (Debbie) and Mark Randall Ashley (Mary Nolte). Surviving grandchildren are Erica Ranson Burgess (Bobby), Spencer and Sydney Spevak, Rebecca Ashley Nelson (Craig), Patrick Lee Ashley (Rachel), Lauren and Cristina Ashley, six great-grandchildren Bobby, Maggie, Lance, Sesley, Hayden and Charlotte. He will be greatly missed by all.
Erv attended and graduated from St. Phillips High School and was elected president of his 1946 graduating class and then attended and graduated from North Central College in Naperville, IL.
During the Korean War Erv served in the army as a combat engineer for two years stationed in Ft. Leonardwood, MO and Frankfurt, Germany.
He started with Reynolds Metals Co., now Alcoa, to help introduce Reynolds Wrap to the Chicago market in 1953, and relocated with them in 1965, to Richmond as a market director retiring from there in 1983. After retiring he, Millie and their business partner co-owned a company to sell aluminum products throughout the U. S., retiring from that company in 1997.
For many years Erv enjoyed playing golf and being an active member of Richmond Country Club.
He and Millie have been members of Emmanuel Episcopal Church over the years and were married there in 1978.
Erv joined the Goochland County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Manakin in 1997 along with a close friend Sam Bailey. He drove an ambulance for about 5 years then continued various duties until two years ago. His other volunteer activities included Meals on Wheels and Goochland Cares Food Pantry.
The family will receive friends on March 6 at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road, 4-7 p.m. Graveside service will be held on March 7, at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, 12609 Patterson Avenue at 2 p.m. A Celebration of Life will follow immediately at Richmond Country Club, 12950 Patterson Avenue.
