

JACKSON, Estelle Sharpe, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017. Born December 29, 1924, she was the daughter to Rev. Leason and Edith Sharpe. Estelle was predeceased on July 27, 2012 by her husband of 58 years, Auzville Jackson Jr. She was also predeceased by three younger siblings, Janet Ann Sharpe, Marjorie Sharpe Harnett and her husband, Vernon and Robert Leason Sharpe. Estelle was born in Kalamazoo, Mich. and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from the University of Chicago and received her post-graduate degree from the University of Michigan. An accomplished journalist, she began her career at the Battle Creek Enquirer. She then wrote for the Washington Post, was a consumer columnist for the Richmond Times Dispatch and acted as an editor for Virginia Business magazine. She was both a deacon and an elder at River Road Presbyterian Church and was a member of Second Presbyterian Church. Estelle is survived by her son, Robert Auzille Jackson; her daughter, Sarah Jackson Sakach and her husband, Ronald. Estelle is also survived by her grandchildren, Thomas Jackson Sakach and his wife, Dorothy and Matthew Kent Sakach; and great-granddaughter, Norah Estelle Sakach. A memorial service will be held at River Road Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Friday, July 14, 2017, followed by a church reception.
