

Fred Hosea Curtice, Jr., of Glen Allen, Virginia went to be with his wife, Mary, on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 after a brief illness. Fred was a WWII Army Air Corps veteran and lived in the Richmond area for over 44 years. He was born November, 19, 1918 in Vienna, Virginia to Fred H. and Cuba Grayson Curtice and was the eldest of five children. Fred was raised on a dairy farm in Fairfax, Virginia and graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Agriculture. During the 60's, he was a supervisor for the Farmers Home Administration in southeastern Virginia. Fred then changed careers to earn more income for his growing family. In 1969, Fred was one of the initial agents hired by AFLAC in Virginia. He had a long and productive career with AFLAC, qualifying for "AFLAC man of the Year" and continuous top producers awards and conventions. Fred's gift of storytelling enabled him to connect with thousands of policyholders, strangers, friends, and family. You knew where Fred stood on issues of the day, especially politics. He was born a democrat, but died a conservative. He loved gardening, baseball, NASCAR, football and writing letters but his hearing impairment kept him off the telephone. He was gifted with a great sense of humor and an incredible memory which he maintained until his death. Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Curtice andhis grandson, Robert William Curtice. He is survived by his two sisters, Barbara Noll and Susan Henderson of Fairfax, Virginia; by his children, Fred Hosea Curtice III and wife, Mary, of Foley Alabama, Gregory William Curtice and wife, Sabine, of Chesterfield, Virginia, Lucia Curtice Lucas and husband, Timothy, of Richmond, Virginia, John Grayson Curtice and wife, Betty, of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Susan Elizabeth Mercado and husband, Julin, of Ocala, Florida; 11 grandchildren, Gino Curtice, Jennifer Curtice, Kelly Bruhl, Tracy Cockson, Olivia Ortiz, Nancy Curtice, Nathan Mercado, Kasey Dustin Hayes, John Curtice Jr., Natalia Mercado and Adam Mercado; 12 great-grandchildren, Olivia, Liam, Orlando, Riley, Gracie, Roman, John, Vanessa, Maya, Giada, Michael, and Thaddeus; and by many nieces and nephews, and special friends. Remains rest at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road, where the family will receive guests for 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, February 3, 2013 and where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday. Interment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
