

George graduated from Pelham High School where he was a member of the track team. He joined the United States Marine Corps where he flew the Corsair F4-U Fighter and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his actions in the South Pacific during World War II. After his military service, George worked for several clothing companies, mostly in Manhattan, as a sales manager. He was an avid golfer and a long-time member of Hermitage Country Club.
George is survived by his children, Denis (Andrea) of Norwalk, CT, Colette Robbins (Gerald) of New Port Richey, FL, Susan Dean of Richmond, Nancy Fitzgerald (John) of Richmond and David (Michelle) of Richmond, and his sister, Edyth Vanderoef of FL. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 3 great grand children. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sitter and Barfoot Veterans Care Center in his memory.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am, on Thursday, November 6, 2014, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 9505 Gayton Rd, Henrico, VA 23229. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park.
