Sending my love and my sincere sympathy to Joan,Gary,Susan ,and Becky ,as well as all of the lovely Crane family.  We were your lifelong neighbors up at the top of our street. I had the pleasure of getting to see and know Mr. Crane again at Henrico Drs. hospital ,where I am a nurse. He talked of his family with such admiration and love. I know he will be missed.

We were truly saddened to learn of Hal's passing. Whenever someone has mentioned the "Home for Boys" or the Optimist Club, Hal's name, his smile and his devotion to both of these  immediately crossed our minds...

I will miss Hal's friendly smile and hearty handshake whenever we met at Optimist events. He was always a good fixture at district meetings.

I know his commitment to helping youth in need of support and guidance was a great success when I attended the Virginia Boys and Girls Home Christmas party in 2005 as Optimist District Governor and met a number of the graduates who had returned to give their thanks to the school and Hal. He had Virginia Governor Doug Wilder give an inspiring speech on how you can succeed in spite of early attitudes and challenges which can be reversed as in his case. We are all blessed to have had Hal as a friend and mentor.

I had the pleasure of working with Hal as a member of The Optimist Club of Richmond while I was at Cherry Bekaert & Holland.  He was a wonderful, hardworking man.
