

Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Cedarfield from complications of a severe stroke suffered on February 15. He was born September 25, 1931 in Schuyler, Virginia, and was preceded in death by his parents, Jack William Miller and Lillian Ferguson Miller; and his brother, Edward Lee Miller. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Sirles Miller; four daughters, Diane Miller Bumgarner and her husband, Keith, of Buford, Georgia, Kelly Sirles Miller, Sharon Miller Cage and her husband, Tom, and Jacqueline Miller Congdon and her husband, Jeffrey, all of Richmond; eight grandchildren, Stephen
Kent Bumgarner (Laura) of Jersey City, New Jersey,
Lauren Bumgarner Hitt (Benjamin) of Portland, Oregon, Necole Marie Voltz of Raleigh, North Carolina, Travis William Voltz, Chelsea Elizabeth Voltz, William Thomas Cage Jr., Page Elizabeth Conway, Katherine Sirles Conway; two stepgrandsons, Jeffrey Whitefield Congdon
Jr. (Molly) and Mark Ross Congdon, all of Richmond; one great-granddaughter, Audrey Eliza Bumgarner of Jersey City, New Jersey; one nephew, Edward Lee Miller Jr. (Cynthia) of Newport News, Virginia. Jack graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1949. He attended Virginia Tech on a track scholarship and was the 1952 co-captain of the Virginia Tech track team. He always said he "ran his way through college."
He graduated with a degree in Business Administration
in the class of 1953. While at Tech, Jack was an exemplary member and leader of the German Club. In 2007, he received the German Club Alumni Foundation Distinguished Achievement Award. In 1955, he began his career with Standard Oil (Exxon).
In 1966, he joined Brenco, Inc. In 1981, he co-founded
Roller Bearing Industries, Inc. with his longtime
friend and business partner, W. Stuart Johnson. Jack was a longtime member of Fair Havens Church, but
recently moved his membership to Second Baptist Church. He was a member of The Commonwealth Club, The Country Club of Virginia, and Meadowbrook Country Club. Committal at Westhampton Memorial Park will be private.
The memorial service will be held at Second Baptist
Church, 9614 River Road, Richmond, Virginia 23229, on Saturday, March 3, 2012, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made in his name to Second Baptist Church. Condolences may be left at
