

CARTER, Jessie Willard, 92, beloved Daddy and Grandpa, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 28, 2010. He was the youngest of seven children born to Alfred Hutson and Carrie Parrish Carter in Boydton, Va., on February 28, 1918. He was a World War II veteran, serving as a medic in the U.S. Army in Northern France. After the war, he began a career working for Leggett & Meyers Tobacco Co. and later retiring from Philip Morris. Jessie had a love of all animals, gardening and the New York Yankees.
He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 50 years, Ruby Massie Carter; and is survived by a son, Ronald Carter Sr.; daughter, Gina Carter; daughter-in-law, Cathy Carter; grandchildren, Lionel Carter Sr. and wife, Shellie, Tammy Carter, Ronald Carter Jr., Michael Rose Jr. and wife, Kelly, Jessica Rose, Hollie Schools and husband, Paul, Whitney Carter and Lindsey Carter; great-grandchildren, Jarrett Flippo, L.J. and Ryan Carter and Ava Rose; sister-in-law, Mae Massey; many nieces and nephews and his beloved poodle, "Paris."
Jessie was a wonderful Father, Grandfather, Uncle and friend who will be missed very much. He is again with his wife, Ruby, whom he loved very much, in that place where Christ said, "I go to prepare a place for you, that where I am, you may be also."
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., and where services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to your favorite charity.
