Jill was born in Richmond, Virginia, on June 5, 1936, and lived her entire life in Richmond and Virginia Beach. She loved traveling abroad, especially to France, where she attended cooking schools and discovered one of her greatest joys - sharing wonderful food with those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Harriet; her father, Lawrence; and her brother Tom.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Edward A. Zakaib, M.D., and his family all of whom adored Jill. She is also survived by her sons Skip(Kim), Richard(Debbie), and Mark(Kathy) Lawrence, her daughter Wendy Lawrence, and several grandchildren.
Jill was a lifelong volunteer for Children's Hospital, where she managed an annual style show to raise funds for children's health causes. She also served for many years on the board of the Richmond Ballet, reflecting her lifelong passion for dance and exercise. Jill especially loved the many years of exercise & dance with Kaye Gary.
Her love of gardening was another great joy, as was her devotion to her beloved Scottish Terriers - Missy, Gracie One, Gracie Two, and Gracie Three.
Jill was a longtime member of the "Goddesses", a group of dedicated volunteers at the Massey Cancer Center. She loved birthdays - especially her husband's - and always celebrated them as "Birth weeks". Once she focused on planning a celebration, nothing could deter her enthusiasm.
She also cherished her neighborhood and her Episcopal church, where her parents and brother had worshipped faithfully every Sunday.
The family wishes to thank the staff who cared for Jill during her final days at the Barclay Memory Unit. The family also wishes to express their appreciation for the care given by the Legacy Hospice and CARE with LOVE personel.
A celebration of life will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church on River road in Goochland on Sat. Oct. 25, 2025 at 12 PM.
Those who wish to honor Jill's Memory may make a contribution to their favorite charity.
