

PERRY, Joseph Maynard III "Jay," 54, passed away suddenly in an automobile accident on December 8, 2012. JM, as he was known by old friends and family, is survived by his wife, Christina "Tina" P. Perry; his daughter, Sarah James Perry; stepsons, Philip B. Pendleton (Gretchen), Marshall M. Hall (Lyndsay) ; mother, Esther Perry; and sister, Brenda. Born in Portsmouth, Va., Jay attended Nansemond Suffolk Academy on full scholarship and played football, baseball and basketball, lettering in all three sports. He gained a full four-year scholarship in basketball to Randolph-Macon College, where he majored in Religious Studies with a minor in business. He was an active member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and a lifelong fan of RMC basketball and football; especially during the Hampden-Sydney rivalry. Jay was an avid outdoorsman and loved to spend time in the woods hunting or fishing. Jay was also a good carpenter, having learned the skill at an early age by his maternal grandfather. He was a devoted father to his daughter, Sarah, encouraging her along the way in her every interest and endeavor. He was loved mightily by his wife and family and will be missed greatly. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Second Baptist Church, 9614 River Rd., Richmond, Va. 23238. A reception will follow at 10 Dahlgren Rd., Richmond, Va. 23238. Family and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Jay Perry to the Prayer Garden at Second Baptist Church.
