

KOLBE, Junius Anderson "Pete," of Cedarfield, age 88, died Monday, July 2, 2012. Born in Richmond, Virginia, he was the son of John G. Kolbe and Ruby Penick Kolbe. After graduating from St. Christopher's School, he received his B.S. in Chemistry from Virginia Tech in 1944 where he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi honorary scholastic fraternity and Phi Lambda Upsilon honorary chemistry fraternity. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army as an instructor in the Signal Corps. From 1953 to 1989, he was president of John G. Kolbe, Inc., a restaurant equipment company that was founded by his father with locations in Richmond, Roanoke, and Virginia Beach. He was a member of the Society of the Cincinnati in the State of Virginia. In addition to numerous charitable endeavors such as after school mentoring, Pete served on the boards of the Richmond West End Rotary Club, (Paul Harris Fellow Award Winner), the Salvation Army, the Virginia Institute of Pastoral Care, the St. Mary's Hospital Volunteers (V.P.) and the Virginia Tech and JMU Restaurant Schools. His many interests included foreign travel with his wife and photography; for many years he displayed his photos in numerous exhibitions around Richmond. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Henry P. Kolbe. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anne Brauer Kolbe; his three sons, John Christian Kolbe of Richmond, Robert Carter Kolbe of Kilmarnock and Peter Anderson Kolbe of Raleigh; sister, Dr. Martha E. Kolbe of Richmond; grandson, Matthew Brauer Kolbe and wife, Erin, of Richmond; and great-grandson, Alaric Scott Kolbe. A private burial service will take place at Hollywood Cemetery. Visitation for friends will be at the Parham Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road, from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2012.
