Mary Ann Elliott Moore of North Chesterfield departed this life suddenly on March 16, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warner Howard Moore; her parents, Joseph Black & Mary Dickey Elliott; her in-laws, Warner Richard & Dorothy Easterday Moore; her brother-in-law, Wilbur Pursell; brother-in-law, Thomas Cobbledick and sister-in-law, Lynda Elliott and niece, Nina Patnaude. “Mom” was a dedicated and loving mother to her children: son, Warner Richard Moore II (wife, Colleen Kelly); daughter, Tracy Gibson Moore Stuckey (husband, Kenneth) and son, Bradford Elliott Moore. “Mema” was the very proud Grandmother of Tyler Elliott Wood, Channing Moore Fournier (husband, Michael), Jennifer Mary Moore, Warner Ryan Moore and Kendall Harlan Stuckey. She is also survived by her sister, Betsy Cobbledick; brother, Joseph Elliott, Jr. (wife, Katie) and sister-in-law, Patricia Pursell; 11 nieces and nephews and 26 great-nieces and nephews.
Mary Ann was born outside of Boston, MA on April 9, 1930. She moved many places before settling in Westport and Weston Connecticut, which she always referred to as home. She graduated from Penn Hall in 1949. Mary Ann was very loyal to her husband, family and friends – she was one who many depended on and was willing to share many “words of wisdom”. She was an avid reader, known to read 3 or 4 historical novels simultaneously. She was a crossword puzzle wizard and could complete the NY Times Sunday puzzle without much challenge. She repeatedly would say, I am full of “useless knowledge” but would definitely be someone who you would use for a lifeline on “Who Wants to be a Millionaire”. Mary Ann had a splendid sense of humor and brought much laughter into many lives. All knew her as an excellent cook and looked forward to the meals she would prepare (life won’t be the same without those molded turkey butter pads at Thanksgiving!) She was an outstanding woman and will be missed by many and never forgotten.
It brings us great peace to know that she is now with the Lord and her husband of 53 years as well as others she dearly loved. We would like to thank her neighbors, the Ketchums, Bochmans and Morgans for making it possible for our Mom to remain in her home until the day of her death. You all meant the world to her and there wasn’t a day that went by that she didn’t tell us how fortunate she was to have such wonderful neighbors.
