

Mary Elizabeth Troutman Seume went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 14, 2014, at the Hermitage at Cedarfield in Richmond, VA. She is preceded in death by her father, Charles Henry Troutman, her mother Lena Dunn Troutman, her husband Richard H. Seume, her son Richard H. Seume Jr., her brothers David and Charles Troutman and her sister Carolyn Troutman Seaholm. She is survived by her daughters Mary Ann (Pat) Cate of Durham, NC, Marcia (David Bennett) Seume Hanson of Minneapolis, MN, and Jennifer (Charles) Seume Dalch of Shelburne, VT, seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Mary was born in Butler, PA. She graduated from Highland Hall Preparatory School in Hollidaysburg, PA, and Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill. She and her husband served in the ministry in churches in Houston, TX, Paterson, NJ, Richmond, VA. and Wheaton, Ill. During her long and blessed life, she contributed to the lives of many people through her Sunday School and Bible classes and informal counseling sessions.
Travel was an important and joyful part of her life. As a child, she and her family travelled throughout the Southwestern US. As an adult, she travelled to all 50 US states as well as parts of the Middle East, Europe, Africa, South America and Asia.
Mary’s happiest moments were spent in partnership with her husband Dick and raising and supporting her four children and her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her keen mind, fierce independence, broad interests, kind and generous spirit and her devotion to her Savior.
The family wishes to thank all of the caring and supportive staff at Cedarfield and her many friends at Immanuel Baptist Church for their love and attention during her final years. Friends are invited to a visitation at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 North Parham Road from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17th. A private burial service will be held on Thursday, December 18th followed by a memorial service 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Woody Funeral Home, located at 1771 North Parham Road.
