Michael McDermott

Michael McDermott, 75, passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s hospital on May 16, 2024. Michael was born to Martin and Olga McDermott in Santa Monica California, where he grew up. He is survived by wife Catherine and daughter Megan.

He attended Humbolt State University and graduated with a degree in psychology in 1971. Soon after joining the Air Force where he served for 5 years. He met his wife Catherine while in the Air Force in San Antonio, Texas. Soon after marrying they moved back to California where they spent 30 years before moving to Glen Allen, VA.

Michael enjoyed traveling, going to the movies, and eating out. He liked music and art and enjoyed going to museums. After retiring he joined Score as a mentor and started a consulting business for small business. He was also a member of the Glen Allen Masonic Lodge #131.

Michael was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all of his life experiences and an avid reader.

Michael loved his family and would make a point to tell them that he loved and appreciated them as often as possible. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
