McCRAY, Nancy Belle Painter, 84, known to all who loved her as Nanny, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Monday, August 15, 2016. She was born February 5, 1932, in Washington, DC, and raised in Staunton, Va. since early childhood, where lifelong relationships with family and friends were formed. While she considered Staunton her home town, she and her husband Hank moved to Richmond, Virginia in 1967. There they raised their family in Henrico County, and have been residents of Goochland County since 1987. Nanny was very passionate about family, life, and friends. Her laughter was infectious and anyone who knew her loved her. She had no love greater than attending any sporting event in which her grandchildren participated-especially baseball. She was predeceased by her parents, Helen and Kemper Coleman Painter; brothers Earle and Jack and her sister Jean. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Henry “Hank”; sons Henry “Chuck” (Libby), Richard “Mac”, Mark (Lorrie); grandchildren Doug (Alisa), Casey (Jacqui), Mark, Lashlee; two great grandchildren, Preston and Kemper; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 20, 2016, at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 1706 St. Matthews Lane, Henrico, Virginia 23233. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to St. Matthews United Methodist Church.
