

SEN, Ranjit Kumar, 74, the former President and Chief Executive Officer of Code X Inc. (CXI), passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2012. Mr. Sen was born in Kolkata, India, and permanently moved to the United States in 1964. He was educated in India, Germany and the U.S. In 1976, he founded Diversified Engineering. The firm specialized in industrial automation systems and was subsequently acquired by the publicly held U.S. Filter Corporation in 1998. Two years later, Mr. Sen founded CXI, which became a leading provider of IT services in the mid-Atlantic region. He sold the company to Stefanini in 2011. Throughout these decades, Sen remained committed to the next generation of innovative thinkers, providing young entrepreneurs with multiple opportunities to initiate and develop their own successful ventures. In addition to these professional interests, Mr. Sen was an influential and charismatic civic leader who made tremendous contributions to the greater Richmond community. Among his many positions, he served on the Board of Commissioners at the Virginia Port Authority under Governors Mark Warner and Tim Kaine. Admired and respected as a man of great principle, Sen's loyalty and integrity were united with an unwavering commitment to the advancement of others. A resident of Richmond since 1964, Mr. Sen believed in its people, supporting those causes that progressed the interests of the entire community. He was a founding trustee of the Hindu Center of Virginia and served on its board for 15 years. He also served as a Trustee of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. As a board member of the American Red Cross, Virginia Commonwealth University School of Business Foundation, Center Stage Foundation, Maymont and the Greater Richmond Technology Council, he made invaluable contributions to our city. For these efforts he received numerous service awards, including the Greater Richmond Area Humanitarian Award and the Asian American Society of Central Virginia Philanthropy Award. The youngest of 11 children born to the late Dr. Sarit Mohan Sen and Shobhamoi Sen, Mr. Sen was part of a large and extended family. Among survivors are his wife, Inge Braun Sen; four sisters, Jasmine Gupta, Chandrima Roy, Protima Gupta and Reena Gupta; and devoted nephews and niece, Shu Dasgupta, Sujoy Sarkar and Sanchita Dasgupta. A memorial service will be held at Second Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, September 11, at 11 a.m. A private entombment will be held in Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Hindu Center or Massey Cancer Center.
