

KOLB, Rickey Arthur, 67, of Richmond, passed away Monday, December 30, 2013, at VCU Medical Center. He was born December 2, 1946 in Los Angeles, Calif., the son of Clarence and Marie Kolb, both deceased, of Largo, Fla. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary, four sons, Richard, Patrick, Robert and Edward; three grandchildren; and sister, Karen Elam of Keller, Texas.
He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. in 1969 and served 30 years in the U.S. Army. He also graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering, an MS in Applied Mathematics and an MS in Operations Research. Highlights of his military career include 18 years on the faculty at West Point, attaining the position of academy professor. He also served three years as the Commandant of the United States Military Academy Preparatory School at Fort Monmounth, N.J. Military awards include the Legion of Merit with two oak leaf clusters, Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Parachutist Badge, and the distinguished Ranger Tab.
Friday, January 3 a visitation will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Gayton Road at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Requiem Mass at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at the West Point Cemetery, West Point, N.Y. at 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2014. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the VCU Massey Cancer Center Bone Marrow Transplant Program via www.support.vcu.edu/give/massey.
