Rickey J.C. Reed

Rickey JC Reed, age 72, passed away June 23, 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Rickey was born May 30, 1950 in Heber Springs Arkansas to Thurman Reed and Eval (Peel) Curtis. Although his official birth certificate stated May 31, 1950 in error, which was never corrected. He used this as a way to have two birthdays each year, and his family always obliged. He spent most of his youth in Orange County, California and graduated from Orange High School in 1968. After serving in the US Navy, he studied at the Universidad de las Americas Puebla before starting his career with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Service. During this time he also studied at the University of Maryland, graduating in 1986. During his career with the US Department of state, Rickey had assignments in Jakarta, Indonesia; Colombo, Sri Lanka; Seoul, Korea; Suva, Fiji; Bonn, Germany; Tokyo, Japan; Virginia; Hong Kong, China; and then back to Centerville, Virginia where he retired from the Foreign services after 31 years in 2005. After retirement he moved to Gainesville, Virginia and eventually settled down in Las Vegas, Nevada where he spent his days surrounded by his wife, daughter and grandsons. He leaves behind his devoted wife Sri, sister Brenda Dimauro, 2 daughters and their spouses Melissa & Miguel Arjona and Marian & Ian Millikan, and was known as “Papa” to his grandchildren Sophia, Braden, Alexander and Michael. Of all his roles, Rickey enjoyed being “Papa”, and spending time with his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. Many visits to Sweet Frog and Chuck E. Cheese filed his days. And, if you knew him, you knew he loved a good deal and bargain! A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday July 2nd at Woody Funeral Home at 1020 Huguenot Rd, Midlothian, VA 23113. Following the service at 1:00 PM, a burial at Hollywood cemetery with Military honors at 412 South Cherry Street Richmond, VA 23220. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Jude’s Hospital.
