Born on November 4, 1951 in Tampa, FL, Roy was raised in a Navy family that moved between Florida, California, and Virginia throughout his childhood. His brother, Michael, was born a couple of years later and Roy took his responsibility as a big brother very seriously. Still, that didn’t stop Roy from putting his little brother through a lot of antics. With his family, Roy enjoyed camping and being in the outdoors, a hobby that stayed with him throughout is life. Roy found great joy and peace being in nature.
In 1985 and 1987, Roy received two of the greatest blessings in his life – his daughter, Sarah, and son, Kerry. Being a father was a sacred trust for Roy and, with the flaws of all parents, he loved them and tried to pave a path for them. He was unendingly proud of the people his children have become and cherished all the time he spent with them.
After a few years at VCU, Roy settled in Richmond, where he had a carpentry company and construction business. After 30 years in construction, Roy and his wife, Susan, worked with seniors and their families through their moving and consignment company. In recent years, Roy worked as a marketing director for a creative and branding company.
Roy was one of the founding members of the James River Chapter of the Ruffed Grouse Society and made many wonderful friends. Whenever possible, they went into the fields with their dogs and came home tired and with an occasional bird or two. Roy was also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Richmond. He had been a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and was very active in the church when he was younger.
With a deep love of his Lord and an affinity for gospel songs, Roy took his blessed heart out into the world and made friends everywhere. He always wanted to help people and solve problems and he will be remembered for his giving nature. Roy is survived by his wife, Susan Campbell; two children, Sarah Lambertson and Kerry Lambertson; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Elizabeth Lambertson; niece, Katherine Lambertson; nephew, Armand Lambertson, sisters-in-law, Alice Campbell and Jean Beal; and his dear companion, Brodie.
A memorial service for Roy will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., Richmond, VA 23229. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
The James River Chapter of the Ruffed Grouse Society have renamed their conservation fund the “Roy Lambertson Conservation Fund” and plan to establish an annual shooting event called the “Roy Lambertson Memorial Shoot.”
