

SHOWALTER, Roy L., 81, a resident of Richmond and native of Weyers Cave, Va. passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Westport Rehabilitation Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin C. Showalter, Sr. and Bessie Ruebush Showalter. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Davis Showalter; daughter, Leslie Elliott, and her husband Mark; grandson, Andrew Elliott; brothers, E.C. Showalter, Jr. and wife Ruth; David Showalter; sister, Nellie Showalter Lesemann and numerous loved nieces, nephews and friends.
Roy was born in Rockingham County, Va. June 6, 1932 and graduated from Weyers Cave High School. Roy served with distinction in the United States Air Force from May 1952 to May 1956. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, Roy was assigned to the 1502nd Flight Line Maintenance Squadron, Hickham AFB, Oahu, Hawaii. Roy was a crew chief aircraft mechanic for the Air Forces military and transport service. During the years of 1966 to 1984 Roy was a transport driver for Mason Dixon Lines. T.V. and small engine repair was one of his loves for all his friends. Roy’s final place of employment was Home Beneficial Life Insurance Co.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. from 4 to 8pm Friday, November 8, 2013 and where services will be held 1pm Saturday, November 9, 2013. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, with Military Honors.
