

Stephen “Doc” Wilson Madison, 83 of Richmond, Virginia passed away on October 16, 2023. He was the son of the late George Bracy Madison and Allenia Moore Niles Madison of Dillon South Carolina. Stephen began his life in Dillon South Carolina where he attended school and was a graduate of Gordon High School. He was a member of Bethel A.M. E. Church, Dillon, S.C. Stephen attended St. Augustine College, in Raleigh, NC where he received a B.S. degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and later a M.S. degree of Biology at Virginia State University. Besides his education, another one of his greatest achievements was that he served in the US Army where he was stationed for most of his service in France.
He taught in the Chesterfield County Public School System for over 30 years with the majority of his tenure spent at Meadowbrook High School as a Chemistry teacher and the distance track coach for the combined program. Many of his hobbies included photography, woodworking, restoring antique cars, and assisting in restoring older historic homes. He loved watching westerns, sci-fi (Star Trek and Star Wars), and loved listening to various genres of music. He was a gourmet cook specializing in barbequing (over charcoal only), and making his own sauces, including his hot sauce – “Liquid Fire”.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther P. Madison, his brothers Ulysses, George, Johnson, his sister Florea as well as his parents. He leaves behind his daughter; Stephanie A. Madison (Richmond, VA), his son; Mr. Fredric Barnes (Usandra) of Charlotte, NC, three grandchildren; (Caitlin, Christopher, and Andrew), his brother; Mr. Louis Madison (Annie) of Atlanta, GA, a host of nieces, nephews, five sisters – in – law, one brother – in- law, several grand and great grand nieces and nephews, his fur baby of 16 yrs Alex Madison, and other relatives and friends as well as his cherished friends Mr. Walter Lowery, Mr. Armer Mitchell II, and Mr. Dave Cathers who had regular meetings of the Madison Retirement Club over copious meals together.
A visitation for Stephen will be held Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Woodland Heights Baptist Church, 611 W 31st, Richmond, VA 23225. Following the visitation will be a funeral service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Woodland Heights Baptist Church, 611 W 31st St, Richmond, VA 23225.
