Steve was ushered into the gates of Heaven on July 31, 2019.
He was predeceased by his parents, George O. Rudd and Pauline Mitchell Rudd. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Wanda; sister, Linda Rudd Gross; brother, George O. "Buddy" Rudd, Jr. (Marlene); mother-in-law, Artie Bagby; his bonus children, Garrett Durvin and Jessica Durvin Adams; two precious grandchildren, Chase and Chelsea Adams; and several nieces and nephews.
Steve was a quiet and kind gentleman known for his patience, his gentleness, his incredible ability to build or fix anything, and his deep love for Jesus, his family and friends. Steve was a man of many gifts and talents. He was an airplane pilot, a Pro 6 Series race car driver, and an amazing musician. He was also the proud co-owner of Mitchell Wade and Associates. He loved people so BIG, whether they were family or someone he had just met. You always felt loved, valued and appreciated when you spent time in his space. While in the fight of his life as he battled cancer, Steve continued to put others before himself. He was brave. He was courageous. He was an incredible servant and always wanted to know what he could do to help. He got such JOY from blessing others daily. Steve created a solid legacy for his family, and for that we will be forever grateful. His life was well-lived and he was well-loved.
We can only imagine the beautiful sight when Jesus had His arms outstretched as he gave Steve the biggest hug and whispered these final words to him: "Well done, Papa Steve." 2 Timothy 4:7: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 1 pm at Woody Funeral Home, Parham Chapel, 1771 N. Parham Rd., Richmond, Va., 23229.
