Thong D. Vuong

Born in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam to immigrant parents of Chinese heritage. (Our grandma was 20 when she moved to Vietnam! My grandparents migrated from China to Vietnam to the USA in her lifetime.)

Moved to Richmond, Virginia, in 1980 around Christmas time to snow,something that never happened in tropical Vietnam.

A few interesting facts:

*Teacher in Vietnam who was talented in the sciences and math

*Spoke multiple languages - to include: Vietnamese, Mandarin, Cantonese, English and French

“On the Road Again” by Willie Nelson was a favorite song and would play it on repeat without losing the joy of it

*Loved all things sweet to eat

*Liked watching game shows - Wheel of Fortune, Price is Right and Family Feud in particular

*Had incredible memory and still had memorized all addresses and phone numbers of relatives, across the country and globe.

*Would give the shirt off his back to anyone he thought in need

*Resilient and survived my brother Bao’s terrorist years (birth until about 4?:)

*Legacy lives on through his 5 grandchildren - Sophia, Alex, Evie, Kai and Parker

He will be dearly missed by his family which spans across the east and west coasts and the countries of Vietnam, Taiwan and Australia.

Raising a heineken, vanilla wafers and Reese's pieces to you, dad; happy sweet well-deserved rest.
