

William Gatewood, 88, died on July 13, 2012. He was a life long resident of Richmond and the son of Dr. Emmette Trible Gatewood and Belle Moss Gatewood. He is preceded in death by his brother Emmette Trible Gatewood, Jr. and sister-in-law Martha Parsons Gatewood. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Hawkins Neale Gatewood; a son, William Trible Gatewood and his wife, Cindy Sue Gatewood; two daughters, Gail Gatewood Gillespie and her husband Gerald Keith Gillespie, and Mary Meade Neale; two grandsons, William Trible Gatewood, Jr. and Christopher Neil Gatewood. His grandparents were Richard Emmette Gatewood, Nannie Cowles Gatewood, Richleu Forrest Moss and Minnie Neblette Moss. He attended McGuire's University School and graduated from St. Christopher's School and the University of Virginia, voluntarily enlisting into the U.S. Army, he served in WWII in the Pacific theater as a Clinical Specialist Laboratory Technician. Upon returning to civilian life, he entered the real estate profession becoming a realtor, obtaining the professional designations of Associate Broker, GRI, CRS, and serving on the Board of Directors of Richmond Board of Realtors. He was a past Chairman of Richmond Fire Prevention Week, a long time member of Kiwanis' Club of Richmond, Sons of the American Revolution, Sons of the Revolution, Society of Colonial Wars, Society of Colonial Wars in the State of Virginia, Country Club of Virginia, Copperleaf Club in Florida, a deacon in First Presbyterian Church and many local civic associations. A worship service will be held on Wednesday, July 18 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fellowship Hall at Cedarfield, 2300 Cedarfield Parkway. A private family interment will be at Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Christopher's School or a charity of your choice.
