Winona Bennett Garland

Winona “Granny” Garland, 82, of Varina, born October 22, 1939 to the late William and Winona Bennett went to be with the angels on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Lewis ‘Buddy” Garland and granddaughter, Samantha “Sam” Garland. Granny lived her entire life on the family’s farm and at one time was the youngest person registered as a landowner in Henrico County. She was a HCPS bus driver for over 25 years. Granny had a special love for children and often would say that the best sound in the world was listening to children on a playground. She is survived by her five children, Ginger Talley, Rocky Garland (Angie); Chip Garland (Karen), Paige Ramer (Michael), and Kasey Valentino (Don). Granny was blessed to have ten grandchildren, Tiffany, Jessi, Taylor, Thane, Chloe, Pierson, Caston, Kallie, Cameron, and Emily, and seven great grandchildren. Granny loved her two brothers, Bill Bennett (Joyce) and Butch Taylor (Dawn), a wonderful sister-in-law, Barbara Craft (Jerry), and Gary Fuqua (Sherry) whom she thought of as a son. “Loved by many, best mom, wonderful grand and great grandmother. We will all miss you, Granny.” The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 from 2:00PM to 4:00PM and 6:00PM to 8:00PM for a Visitation at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave Richmond, VA 23231. A Funeral Service on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 11:00AM. Interment to follow at Varina Episcopal Church Cemetery.
