Andrew Roane Townes passed away at home on May 11, 2026, in Ridgeland, MS at the age of 61. He was born on July 23, 1964, in Grenada, MS, to Dr. Andrew Roane Townes and Katherine Graham Townes, who loved him fiercely. As their only child, Andrew’s parents made sure he was surrounded by adoring family members daily and for every holiday.
Andrew’s youth was idyllic from afternoon football games in his front yard to his mother teaching him how to play golf. He graduated from Kirk Academy in 1981, where he made lifelong friendships in the classroom, on the football field and on the basketball court. He graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1986, where he walked on to the golf team his freshman year, and walked off his sophomore year to focus on Sigma Chi and Ole Miss sports.
Andrew excelled in his banking and finance classes which led to a long successful career as an investment advisor, a career he was devoted to literally until the day he died. Kindness was Andrew’s first priority in every aspect of his life. At the office, that meant he was kind to his clients and to his coworkers every day.
Andrew met Jan, his wife of 33 years, through work. They were a team, both at home and the office. Their two diverse personalities complemented each other, and they were extremely devoted to each other. Their work-focused lives completely changed in 2000, when their son Holland was born. The work days and golf games ended earlier. To say Andrew loved Holland is a vast understatement. He was devoted to his son; taught him how to throw a football, hit a baseball, score a goal, hit a golf ball and to always be kind to others. It was a relationship that was fun to watch develop over the years. Andrew was such a proud father and eager to tell anyone about his precious son.
Andrew was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved uncles Dr. Robert “Bobby” Burwell Townes, Jr. and Hammond Patterson “Pat” McCain, Jr., and his first cousin Allen Townes Cunningham.
Andrew is survived by his wife, Jan Holland Townes, his son Holland Roane Townes, Jan’s parents who he admired and adored, Edna and Bob Holland, his loving aunts Frances McCain of Jackson and Linda Townes of Grenada, brotherly cousins Rob Townes (the Reverend Lynnsay Buehler) of Decatur, GA, Todd Townes (Krista) Eatonton, GA and Blake Townes, Grenada, brother in law Steve Holland (Phyllis) of Clinton, his caretaker, friend and cosinger Sarah Robinson of Brandon and multiple generations of cousins who he called friends.
The hardest battle of Andrew’s life was hearing the diagnosis of ALS. It robbed him of being on the golf course with his “group” he loved, his body, his brilliant mind and many more years loving his family.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in Andrew’s name can be made to Target ALS, 244 Madison Avenue, #1025, New York, NY 10016, attention: Christine Aranyos Prouty, Director of Philanthropy or online at targetals.org.
A graveside service for Andrew will be held in the fall and a visitation and reception for family and friends will be held Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 4:00, at their family home in Ridgeland
