Annie Sue Blaine was born in Edgefield, Mississippi August 4, 1931 to Olie Jane Simmons Reis and Emmett Preston Reis. She attended Edgefield Elementary School, McCool High School, Holmes Junior College, and Clarke College.
In 1951, Sue married Jimmy Dean “J.D.” Blaine. During the first several years of their marriage they traveled up and down the Eastern Seaboard for J.D.’s job with Dixie Reader Service, and they had two children, James Michael Blaine and Angela Susan Blaine. When Mike became of school age, they left the traveling life and settled into Byram, MS as their home, having two more children, Mark Reis Blaine and Kenneth Alan Blaine.
Sue was a devoted mother, homemaker, and most notably a Christian woman. She taught Sunday School for many years at First Baptist Church of Byram and was deeply respected by all who knew her for her faith and knowledge of the Bible.
The loss of her husband J.D. at age 52 years to a heart attack was a defining moment in Sue’s biography, for in losing her husband so young, she was destined to grow even more deeply in her relationship with God, often quoting Isaiah 54:5 and other Biblical references regarding God’s protection of widows.
Enjoying rich and rewarding friendships with her church and missionary friends, Sue made both pleasure and mission trips across the U.S. and to several foreign countries, including Israel, Italy, Spain and Honduras.
Preceded in death by her husband J.D. , and her parents Preston and Olie Jane, she also lost her youngest son Ken to cancer, an experience no parent ever wishes to undergo.
Her three remaining children and their spouses are Mike and wife Tammy Blaine, Angela and husband Jimmy Hite, Mark, and Ken’s wife Tricia Blaine.
Sue’s family also includes seven grandchildren… Bryson Blaine, Bethany Blaine, Lindsey Blaine, Kristen Gordon (Ben), Justin Blaine, Rachel Hite, Logan Blaine (Anna Claire) and two step-grandchildren Tara Wiles and Sarah Van Gordon Hanson. She has seven great grandchildren - Bethany, Taylor, Gage, McKayla, James Titus, Annie, and Paxton, as well as four step grandchildren - Austin, Eli, Everly and Sawyer.
Sue spent her final years of life at Cooperwood Senior Living, where despite dementia and declining health, she continued to be influential with the residents there through her kindness, her smile, and her steadfast faith.
The family would like to formally recognize with gratitude her most current caregivers Elizabeth Gilmer, Victoria Allen, and Jessica Funches, as well as all those who were with her over the last few years.
A Celebration of Life service for Sue will be held at First Baptist Church of Byram, 7541 South Siwell Road, Byram Mississippi on Tuesday, May 6 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be at 10, prior to the service.
Sue will be buried in a private ceremony in Edgefield Cemetery, her childhood community, alongside her husband and among extended family graves from multiple generations.
