Annie Elmira Roever was born to Charles Hans and Artamissa Hennington Roever on December 25, 1926. She was reborn as a child of God in the waters of Holy Baptism at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jackson, Mississippi, on January 1, 1934; there she also took her place in the Communion of Saints through the rite of confirmation in 1939, where she received the medicine of immortality, Christ’s life-giving Body and Blood. She joined the saints at Christ Lutheran Church in 1984.
The Lord had good use of Elmira throughout her life in her vocations at church, work, and to her community. A graduate of Central High School, Jackson, Mississippi, she went on to study at Strong Business College and began working with Wholesale Drug Company. She later worked as accountant clerk at Nabisco and continued there over forty years until her retirement. Devoted to her family, she cared for her mother and brother in their latter years. In her extended family of Christ Lutheran, she served faithfully for over forty years, participating in regular Bible studies, the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, the church council, and the ladies’ quilting group. In her spare time, Elmira enjoyed needlework and painting.
Finally, on August 22, 2021, God blessed Elmira with a holy death and gathered her to the unending Feast of the Lamb in His kingdom which has no end.
The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord. We give thanks to God our Father through Jesus Christ, our Lord, for our sister Elmira.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church on Friday, September 3, at 10:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior.
Memorial donations may be made in Elmira’s name to Christ Lutheran Church, 4423 I-55 North, Jackson, MS 39206.
