
She was born on March 17, 1936 in Atlanta, Georgia, to John Thomas and Anne Hendrick Buchanan. After her family moved to Jackson, Betty Anne graduated from Central High School. She and Edmund Johnston were married on June 8, 1957. They brought up their three children in Jackson, where they faithfully attended the First Presbyterian Church. A loving wife and mother, she was devoted to, and adored by, her family and attended any and all activities in which her children, and later her seven grandsons, participated.
Her husband of 57 years, Edmund, her parents, and her brother, Buddy Buchanan, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughters, Margaret Anne Forester and husband, Marcy, of Jackson, and Becky Newman of New York City, and her son Jed Johnston of Sarasota, Florida. She was the proud grandmother of seven grandsons: Davidson Forester and his wife, Angela, Matthew Forester and his wife, Brighton, and Andrew Forester, all of Jackson; Nathan Wall and his wife, Robyn, of Weehawken, NJ, Clayton Wall of Memphis, TN; and Bennett Johnston and Harrison Johnston of Birmingham, Al. She is also survived by her two great-granddaughters, Ellie Wall and Naomi Wall, two sisters-in-law, Barkie Crosland and Luran Buchanan, both of Jackson, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at the First Presbyterian Church of Jackson on Monday, November 10, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. The memorial service will be held at the church on Tuesday, November 11, at 11:00 a.m.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Jackson, Reformed Theological Seminary, Belhaven University or Gateway Rescue Mission.
