
Born in 1961 in Connecticut, Bruce grew up in Syracuse and Manlius, New York. He graduated from Fayetteville-Manlius High School in Manlius, NY in 1979. Bruce was a student and an athlete with the Fayetteville-Manlius High School football team, as well as a member of the indoor and outdoor track and field team as a sprinter and pole vaulter. He was also a musician. Bruce was a member of Christ Episcopal Church of Manlius, NY and St. David’s Episcopal Church of South Yarmouth, MA. With brothers, Jay and Lance, as well as friends, he formed the musical group AMBUSH, performing through his high school and college years. He graduated from Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, NY and Jackson State University with honors.
From Syracuse, NY to Hyannis, MA, employment led him to Cape Cod, where he was introduced to the love of his life, the deceased Denise Hester Detotto of Jackson, MS, who passed away following her courageous battle against cancer in 2013. Their mutual dedication and education led them into private practice until both joined the staff at Mississippi State Hospital.
Bruce Michael Detotto, beloved husband of 18 years to the late Denise Hester Detotto and cherished son is survived by his parents, Jerome and Nancy Detotto of Venice, Florida and West Yarmouth, MA, devoted brother of Jay Detotto (Alicia) of Austin, TX, and Lance Detotto of Hallandale Beach, Florida.
He was the cherished grandson of the late Ottavio and Giovanna Detotto, formerly of New Britain, CT and Sardinia, Italy. They passed on their love of the Italian culture and food. Bruce’s dedication to caring and healing was inspired by his late grandmother, Estelle Sears, R.N. and grandfather, Frederick Sears. He was also predeceased by great grandparents, Bertram and Emma Sears, and the late Peterson and Gary families of Connecticut. Bruce is predeceased by his sister-in-law and family, the late Helen H. Sills of MS (Ben) and children, as well as his late mother-in-law, Rosemary Hester Harrison (Grey).
Bruce will be missed by his loving Aunt Beverly Lemire (Roland) of Torrington, CT; devoted cousins, Lynn Griffin (Brian) of Charlotte, NC, and their children, Jeryd Griffin, and Jessica Griffin (Dan), and their grandchildren, William, Kayla, and Rebecca of Connecticut. He also leaves his cousins, the loving Mitrano Family of Nutley, NJ. Bruce will be missed by his loving family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers.
Visitation for Bruce will be held Monday, March 30, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 11:00 am at Lakewood Memorial Park.
