

Charles L. McNair, 83, died December 12, 2016, after a brief illness. Born in Dixon, Mississippi on August 28, 1933 he loved the Lord, his family, and his church. He especially enjoyed time following his kid’s and grandkid’s sports events and other activities. He graduated from Stratton High School in Union, Mississippi. He then continued his education at East Central Community College, then on to the University of Southern Mississippi where he received his bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. He then obtained a Master’s of Social Work Degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. He retired from the VA Medical Center after 33 years of service as a social worker and was President of the Mississippi Conference on Social Welfare. After his retirement, he served on the Board of Directors for the Magnolia Federal Credit Union and was inducted into the Mississippi Credit Union Hall of Fame in 2014. Charles served his country in the Army in the Korean Conflict and retired as a Brigadier General from the Mississippi Army National Guard.
He was very active at Broadmoor Baptist Church serving as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and serving on various committees. He also loved teaching Sunday School with his brother, James Harold, for many years at the Hinds County Detention Facility.
Charles was beloved by his family who cherished spending time with him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Banks and Evelyn McNair, brother, James Harold McNair, and son, Randy McNair. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Betty McNair, his sister, Ollie Faye Jones, children Debbie Wright and her husband Mike, Barry McNair and his wife Melody, and Tim McNair and his wife Melodi; grandchildren: Leigh Anne Fancher and her husband Matthew, Amy Wright, Stephen Wright and his wife Holly, Kristen McNair, Emily McNair, Madi McNair and Banks McNair; great-grandchildren: Lora Leigh Fancher, Allie Claire Fancher, and James Matthew Fancher II.
Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 pm Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland and 12:00 – 1:00 pm Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 pm Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Broadmoor Baptist Church with burial to follow in Parkway Memorial Cemetery.
