Charlie was a graduate of Mississippi State, but as the son of active Ole Miss alumni parents, he was a devoted Ole Miss football fan.
He had a lifelong love of science and engineering starting with model airplanes and a mad scientist chemistry set and moving on to computers, most recently building his own server. His retirement from Mississippi State Hospital at Whitfield (where he was an IT Systems Administrator) just gave him more time to do all that.
Charlie loved cats, music, his lunch buddies and other friends, his family, motorcycles, car races, Ansel Adams wall calendars, and Jeopardy, not necessarily in that order. He was brilliant and very funny, loyal, generous, and kind.
Charlie is survived by his sister Susan Mitchell and her husband Irvin Cassanova, his cousin Britt Hamill, his nephew Sam Beck, Sam’s wife Louise and their girls Tess and Emmy, and his niece Cailey Cassanova. Charlie is also survived by Eric and Pam Baggett and their children Misty, Erica, Joe, and Catherine, who were as much a part of his family as the rest of us.
Graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday March 28, 2026 at Parkway Memorial Cemetery 1161 Highland Colony Parkway Ridgeland, MS 39157.
