Charles H Sheffield

Charles Henry Sheffield “Charlie”, age 90 of Ridgeland, Mississippi, formerly of Raymond, Mississippi, peacefully went to be with our Lord on October 17, 2024, at his home under hospice care. Charlie was born on November 28, 1933, in Inverness, MS. He grew up in the MS Delta, where he enjoyed working in the fields and on farms with his relatives. He attended Inverness High School where he enjoyed playing football and baseball. Charlie served two years in the United States Army at Fort Irwin in Barstow, CA. Charlie moved to Jackson, MS, where he married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Ann Weems, and started his family. He worked as a fireman for 30 years with the Jackson Fire Department. In 1971, Charlie moved his family to Raymond, MS, and enjoyed farming again, raising crops and livestock. He also enjoyed working in the vegetable and flower gardens in his yard, as well as raising a nice pecan crop each year. Charlie was a very active member of First Baptist Church of Raymond. He enjoyed singing in the church choir and a men’s quartet for many years. He also enjoyed going on several mission trips and serving as a church deacon.

During Charlie’s retirement years, he enjoyed traveling with his family and friends. He also became a very gifted craftsman, making beautiful pieces of furniture. Later in life, Charlie moved to Ridgeland, MS, where his wife of 60 years, Margaret, passed away. In 2019, Charlie met and married Dorothy Sessums. Charlie and Dorothy enjoyed attending church together, visiting with family and friends, and traveling.

Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Louie F. and Rosie L. Sheffield, brothers Louie Sheffield (Frances) and Clyde Sheffield (Mary), and wife, Margaret Ann Weems Sheffield.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Dorothy Sheffield, daughter Cindy Massey (Bill) of El Paso, TX; daughter Kay Bicker (Ken) of Brandon, MS, three granddaughters, Brooke, Brittany (Jeff), and Ashley (Grant), and three great-grandchildren; Dylan, Sarah Beth, and Myles.

Funeral services will be held at Parkway Funeral Home, Ridgeland, MS, on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation prior to service at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Blair Batson Children’s Hospital.
