“I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not me only, but unto all them also that Love his appearing.” 1 Timothy 4:7-8 KJV. David, a long-time resident of Madison, MS and former resident of Meridian, MS passed away January 16, 2022 at age 74. David is survived by his wife Phyllis and their two sons Lee and Scott Treva than, son-in-law Mason Emnett, brother-in-law Scotty Whatley and wife Stephanie, niece Megan Talkington and husband James, and two beloved grandchildren Darby Trevathan and Stone Trevathan. David is preceded in his death by his mother and father Elizabeth and Vernon Trevathan and in laws Gladys and James Whatley.
David graduated from Mississippi State University in 1969 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He began his professional career at Combustion Engineering in Chattanooga, TN before becoming the City Engineer for Columbus, Mississippi. In 1979 David began his employment with Key Constructors where he worked as Engineer, Project Manager, Superintendent, Vice President and President, the position that he held at the time of his retirement in 2013. David’s hard work and ethical approach to business resulted not only in the completion of some of the largest highway projects in Mississippi but the admiration of his men and the respect of his peers. Though he asked a great deal from the men he led, he never asked for more than he gave. Though he would fight vigorously for his company, he would fight even harder for what he believed was right. David’s impact on the construction industry was illustrated by his induction into the Mississippi Concrete Association’s Hall of Fame and his impact on his fellow workers is illustrated in their continued fond remembrances of him.
David’s insatiable drive to perform was not limited just to work, but also extended to his hobbies. Whether fishing, shooting, or hunting, with David it was mandatory to have the best equipment, to be there earlier, to stay there later, to catch one more, to shoot one more and, when finally complete, to immediately begin planning the next trip. While exhausting, this behavior was loved by those fortunate enough to be his partners. David’s motto of “you don’t know till you go” led to many unexpected pleasurable outings.
