

Dickie Harrison Walters, 58, of Madison died unexpectedly Monday, March 22, 2010, following an afternoon run. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Wright & Ferguson Chapel on Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland and from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the 11:00 a.m. memorial service on Thursday, March 25, 2010. Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Ellisville Cemetery in Ellisville, MS.
A native of Laurel, Walters is survived by Janie Still Walters, his wife of 28 years. An avid runner both competitively and for recreation, he loved to travel and enjoyed Ole Miss Football.
Walters was employed by the Federal Highway Administration in Jackson since 2000. He previously worked for 14 years as the base planner for Keesler Air Force Base and was a planner and environmentalist for the Bureau of Marine
Resources on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Walters also had worked as a typographer for the U. S. Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg.
Walters received an Associate degree from Jones Junior College in Ellisville, a B.S. in geography from the University of Southern Mississippi, and a Masters in City and Urban Planning and Development from the University of Mississippi.
He was an active member of Highland Colony Baptist Church in Ridgeland where he served as greater and was a member of the Koinania Sunday School class. He and Janie previously led a vibrant singles ministry at First Baptist Church in
Gulfport as well as teaching singles at Highland Colony Baptist.
Walters was preceded in death by his parents, Will H. Jr. and Edith Walters of Laurel.
