Edward L. Griffin

After high school, Mr. Griffin joined the United States Navy. Serving in Key West, Florida, San Diego, California and Yorktown, VA as Military Police and Mineman First Class, he deeply valued the time serving his country. Ed Griffin was a genuine patriot and cared deeply for the future of our country. Upon discharge from the Navy, Mr. Griffin moved to Inverness, MS where he met and married his wife Frances after a three month courtship.

Frances and Ed moved to Indianola where he was in the insurance business, a loyal member of the Jaycees and a volunteer fireman. After the births of their two children, a career change led them to Jackson. Mr. Griffin was employed twenty-five years with the national corporation The Hoover Company. Originally in regional sales, he became District Sales Manager and was responsible for overseeing the Mississippi office. Upon retirement, he quickly became bored and eventually began his own business traveling the central part of the state never meeting a stranger. His keen wit and genuine demeanor sold many a customer and gained him countless fans.

Mr. Griffin is preceded in death by his parents Lois Hicks Griffin and James Richard Griffin. He is survived by his wife of almost 58 years Frances Tharp Griffin, children Glenn Edward Griffin (Maureen) of Ridgeland and Cathy Griffin Joyner of Jackson, brother Bobby Joe Griffin of Brandon, sister Patricia Griffin Godbold of Memphis, five grandchildren of which he was tremendously proud – Adam Vincent Griffin (Molly), Eric James Griffin, Catherine Sullivan Joyner, Thomas Lee Joyner IV, Alexandra Eason Joyner, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Adam Griffin, Eric Griffin, Thomas Joyner, Sammy Tharp, Fairl Clark, and Monty Wilkinson. Honorary pallbearers are John Carl Skelton, Roger L. Smith, Wilburn Johnston, and Terry Vaught. The family would like to thank Doctors Nicole Cleveland and Jimmy Jones and Kristin Anderson, RN of Sta-Home Hospice for their excellent care, compassion and support.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 4th at Wright and Ferguson’s High Street location from 5 – 7 p.m. A private family burial will be held Tuesday morning with a memorial service in the chapel at Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to MS Children’s Museum or The MS Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
