

Mr. Bailey was born October 3, 1921, in Fairmont, West Virginia, the son of Herbert Veach Bailey and Zela Virginia Brown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Harold Bailey; step-siblings William and Raymond Harris, and granddaughter Leslie Starkey of New York, New York.
Mr. Bailey is survived by his wife of 66 years Evalyn Bailey of Ridgeland; sister Hazel May White of Buckhannon West Virginia; step-siblings Helen Collins and Robert Harris, Monongah, West Virginia; son Jeff (Wendy) of Durango, Colorado; daughters Becky (Joe) Pomponio of Floyd, Virginia, and Sarasota, Florida, and Connie (Art) Starkey of Madison; granddaughters Kristen (Nate) Ivanick of Denveer, Colorado and Lauren Pomponio of Washington D.C.; great-grandchildren Ethen and Scarlett Ivanick of Denver, Colorado, niece Marj Osgood (Jeff Martinez) and several other nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bailey attended Fairmont State Teachers College in Fairmont, West Virginia, from 1939-41 where he served as captain of the football and baseball teams. Prior to entering military service, Mr. Bailey was employed by Riggs Distler and Co., Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Bailey served in the United States Marines Corps from September 1942 until his discharge as Master Technical Sergeant in November 1945. He attended several military radar schools and served in the South Pacific from May 1944 until August 1945.
Mr. Bailey had been previously employed as an executive with Exxon Oil and Northwestern Refining Company. An avid golfer, Mr. Bailey retired to San Diego, California, in 1977 as Vice President of Marketing from APCO Oil, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Cremation has taken place. A service in memory of Mr. Bailey will be held at
4:00 PM Tuesday August 31, 2010 at Madison United Methodist Church. Visitation will be at 3:30 PM.
