

Born in Rogers, Arkansas, she lived in Jackson most of her life. She and her husband of 60 years, Murphy, were charter members of Robinson Street Baptist in Jackson, where she worked in the nursery. Later in life, they were active members of Colonial Heights Baptist Church. “Betty” was a member of the Seekers Sunday School Class. She was often found making flower arrangements and cooking for various church functions, as well as taking them to hospital patients and homebound members. Among the best known was her delicious pound cake and chicken soup.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Murphy Reed Godwin. Survivors include her niece, Jo Ann Horner (John) of Moscow, TN; nephew, Allen Williams (Sharon) of Brazil, TN; niece, Sharon Johnson of Reno, NV; her husband’s niece, Linda Caston Roberts (Mike) of Brandon, MS, and numerous great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of the Willard Bond Home in Madison for the excellent care and attention given to “Ms Betty” over the last 9 years. Also, special thanks and love to her church family, especially her “deacon” Paul Boykin, Brother John Patterson, and Brother Claude Shufelt for the many visits and prayers.
Funeral services are Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 10:00 am, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at Lakewood Memorial Park at 11:30 am following the service.
