Howard Nelton Qualls, 78, of Madison, MS was called to his eternal rest in the presence of the Lord on August 14, 2024, at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, MS. Nelton was born on March 4th, 1946 to Lorretta McIntyre and Herschel Qualls in Shawnee, OK. The Qualls family then moved to Vicksburg, MS and Howard attended Jett Highschool. He completed college courses and went on to work most of his life for Miller Transporters Inc. where he climbed the corporate ladder and eventually retired as Director of Maintenance. He met the one lady that would change his life forever in 1965, Carolyn Revell Qualls. Nelton and Carolyn welcomed their first child in Vicksburg before moving to Jackson and welcoming their second child. The family of four relocated again to Meridian, MS and ultimately settled in the Jackson-metro area. Through the years, Nelton enjoyed fishing, sports, playing his guitar, and spending time with his family.
Nelton was awarded many accolades during his time with Miller Transporters Inc. and was an integral founding member of the Northwest Rankin Athletic Association for little league baseball. Nelton loved many sports, but his joy came in coaching his sons, Bill and Derek, in baseball in their early years. In his later life, Nelton and Carolyn settled on a sizeable piece of land in Flora, MS and watched their family flourish with grandchildren. Nelton loved spending time with his grandchildren, Kristen, Cassady, Katie, and Jackson as much as he could, and they all loved their “Pappy” very much. In Nelton’s last years he and Carolyn moved to Madison where Carolyn still resides today.
Nelton is survived by his wife Carolyn Qualls of Madison, MS, his son Derek Qualls and his wife Kelly Qualls of Mobile, AL, his sisters, Louise Qualls, Donna Earwood, and Larreda Qualls, his daughter-in-law, Judy Qualls of Madison, MS, his sisters-in-law, Judy Brooks of Tallulah, LA and Tyena Wyble of Arnaudville, LA, and his grandchildren, Kristen Qualls of Jackson, MS, Cassady Qualls of Mobile, AL, Katie Qualls of Madison, MS, and Jackson Qualls of Mobile, AL.
Nelton was preceded in death by his parents Loretta McIntyre and Herschel Qualls, his son William Joseph Qualls (Bill) of Madison, MS, and his sister Glenda Qualls.
