
Ima Jean (Jean) Knight Nicholson, 91, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2014 at Sunnybrook Estates in Madison. Visitation will be held in the parlor at Broadmeadow United Methodist Church at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a memorial service in the church sanctuary at 4:00 p.m.
Jean Nicholson was born June 11, 1923, in the Gitano community, Jones County, MS, to the late Chester and Mattie Knight. After graduating from Soso High School, she attended and graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi. Upon graduating from USM, Mrs. Nicholson worked as a Home Demonstration agent in Covington County. Mrs. Nicholson was a long-time member of Broadmeadow United Church, UMW, and the Adult Bible Class. She will be remembered as a dedicated mother of two, grandmother of four, and great-grandmother of two. Mrs. Nicholson will be most remembered for the care she took of those around her and the light that she brought into the lives of family, friends, and neighbors.
Mrs. Nicholson was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 56 years, Charles Owen Nicholson; and her beloved son, Charlie Nicholson. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Weems (Tommy). Mrs. Nicholson was especially proud of her grandchildren, Taylor Ferrell (Anna Katherine), Matt Ferrell (Kelli), Sara Fries (Pat), and Hunter Nicholson. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Kate and Owen Ferrell. In addition, she is survived by her daughter-in-law, Vicki Nicholson.
The family extends their sincere appreciation to Mrs. Nicholson’s devoted caregivers, Cleo Benson, Marie Sanders, and Lisa Wells.
